Prescription
drugs
Many common prescription drugs have effects of thinning the blood, increasing
skin sensitivity and/or compromising your ability to heal. Please speak
to your artist who will be able to advise you if your drugs could cause
a problem in the tattooing process or if you need to consult your doctor.
Painkillers also thin the blood, and although it may be tempting for you
to take a couple before your appointment we will be unable to tattoo you.
Always seek medical advice from your GP.
Is it infected?
If you follow our aftercare instructions, you won't have any problems.
However, if you think your tattoo might be infected, don't wait for it
to get worse! Speak to your artist immediately, who will then tell you
if you should see a doctor. Signs of infection are severe pain, hot redness,
unexpected swelling, a pus discharge (with or without the presence of
blood), or a foul smell from the area. Infection that is not properly
seen to can result in serious health consequences including septicemia
(blood poisoning) and even minor infections can affect the final tattoo.
Tattoos and
blood donors
In the UK, you cannot give blood if you have had a tattoo or piercing
within the last 6 months - and if you have had a tattoo or piercing outside
of the UK within the last year you may need an additional test before
being allowed to donate blood. Click
here for official guidelines via the National Blood Service site.
Tattooing
over moles and scars
Although moles are usually benign and cause few problems, there is always
the possibility that a mole could serve as an indicator of cancer. If
it was tattooed over with pigment, it could hinder your ability to spot
any changes or colour differences. For your safety, it is best that a
mole not be tattooed over. However, a mole can be tattooed around and
incorporated into your design. Many people get tattoos to cover or distract
from scars they dislike. However, scarring differs for everyone - please
come in and see us, we will take a look and tell you what can be done.
Are tattoos
safe?
Yes, as long as you use a reputable artist that is following all recommended
safety precautions! The Tattoo Station follows the very strictest standards
of tattooing and hygiene, and we are fully Local Authority Registered
which means we are inspected and certified regularly.
Tanning and
sunbeds
It's no secret that tanning isn't really good for your skin anyway, but
it's even harder on your tattoos. Ultraviolet rays drain the life out
of a tattoo. The more you tan, the more the ink fades and slowly goes
from brilliant to boring. If you absolutely must sunbathe, at least be
sensible and use sunblock on your tattoos, but do not sunbathe AT ALL
during the healing process or you will damage your tattoo!
